*sigh*. I had written out a story as to why this drawing was so hard and such a long time coming. Then Nutscrape crashed and all my writing was gone. Bwah.
It was hard work, and it took me three attempts before I got to this point (third time's a charm, eh?). Things just fell into place and I was able to capture his features better. It was certainly a challenge and I feel that wonderful exhaustion inside from pushing myself to finish this. Haven't felt it in a while.
I had to listen to Kate Bush's "Pi" on repeat, you know. It worked! Anyway, without any more waffling - the art.

It's my little homage to the show that's cheered me up in a very tough six months of bad health (tentative endometriosis diagnosis) (try saying that three times fast!) and given me something to smile about from time to time! :p

My god, that's fantastic. You're an art student, right? You've got a hell of a lot of talent. There's such depth and you've captured his expression beautifully.
And you've drawn his curls well! Those are the things I have a lot of trouble with (I just end up basically doing a crazy hair sqiggle), so I am in awe.

aussiesarbear, thank you most kindly, sweetie!
noblevyne, I used to be an art student, yes. Currently I'm a music student and keep my hand in with the art with fan art as well as working on my own original comics. The first issue should be up very soon, in fact.
The curls can be difficult but the trick is not to see them as separate strands of hair that you have to draw in manually. You just have to see spaces and light and shade, and draw what's there. If that makes sense. :)
napalmnacey, the drawing is very beautifully done and really worth the wait. You captured his expression very well (and also the chest hair :D ). Please do some more?

Erm - there's no chest hair, Pi_, just a t-shirt, but that's my fault if you think it's chest hair. LOL.
As for another picture - not for a bit. Took me a lot of energy to do this one. We'll see where the Muse takes me :) ;)

I'm so sorry, it's surely not your fault, my imagination must be running wild. :o

Congrats on the comics, looking forward to seeing them.
Sound advice on the hair, it's funny, I can draw girl's hair just fine with that discipline, but somehow I can't apply it to drawing men's hair or shorter cuts.

OOOOOOO Nancy!! I love it!
You said you were gonna do it, and you did! You're right, you DON'T suck!!
For the record, I didn't think it was chest hair, I thought it was a t-shirt underneath. But don't feel bad if anyone else thinks it's chest hair- we've all been spending a lot of time in the gutter, it's second-nature to us now!;)

Thanks, Deetch! I'd sorta like to bring it to dareal's attention but I don't want to seem like a total creepy girl. (I draw many actors and stuff) *shrugs* Ah well. As long as you guys enjoy it, my fellow fans. :D

OH.MY.GOSH! That's amazing! I absolutely am in awe! DUDE, THAT'S UNBELIEVABLE! I know how much you worked on this and it's paid off. We've been waiting and I was itching just to see it and it's been worth it. Man, I wish I could draw like that. I like doing cartoons [and stick figures because it's plain fun] but you've truly captured Mr. Krumholtz :D Well done hon and I'd frame it at home :D

Nancy... W.O.W.! Seriously! It is just so...... perfect! You have seriously captured him pretty flawlessly. It really really REALLY looks exactly like him! I agree with Noblevyne, even the hair is absolutely spot on.
You have some serious talent!
I'd sorta like to bring it to dareal's attention but I don't want to seem like a total creepy girl. (I draw many actors and stuff) *shrugs* I dont think it would make you seem creepy :p You've obviously put a LOT of effort into it, and its so good that its obvious you draw people/actors all the time. I think he'd love to see it. Its gorgeous! Maybe someone can drop a not so subtle hint about it in a thread he frequents ;) (And by not so subtle, I mean like, with a link to this thread and everything.... hehe) :D
Seriously... it is absolutely amazing! Congrats! (I'd love to see a hi-res version too btw *wink*)
WOW!!! This drawing is gorgeous napalmnacey, and not just because of the subject matter :p You've got more talent in your little finger than I have in my whole body ~ I'm limited to stick figures and even those don't always turn out right. Thanks for sharing :D

I love this fandom. Any other one would call it the 'neck bits' or the 'adams apple' or something. LOL!
How, how could I POSSIBLY draw a picture of the lovely DK without capturing those features? Honestly! LOLOL!

You have great talent and complete accuracy when it comes to drawing a potrait. I can't believe you drew that it looks like a professional drew that picture. Wonderful!

Well, since I do commissions, went to art school and make money from art, I guess I'm sort of a professional! I don't do exhibitions but only because I'm busy with my music at the moment. :) But I do sell art and make a bit of money off it, so yeah. I loosely, very loosely, get rights to the 'p' word.
Thanks for the lovely review, you're very kind!

I absolutely agree with numbers you are incredibly talented and should do it proffesionaly ( second careers are never a waste of time... or money )! art these days really needs true talent displayed in galleries all around the globe... if music gives you some time you should give it a try, i'm sure you'll be very succesful... you have the talent and the skills to do so!... and this pic is a magnific example of what i'm talking about...

Napalmnacey, I should be the one thanking you for posting your artwork. You have nothing to thank me for. People like you should diffenantly be considered a "professional" and I consider you one. If I could draw like that ... well, nevermind ... I can't. I can only draw cartoon characters, I could never accomplish anything like you've done, nowhere even close.
I imagine it would take you a long time to draw David. Exactly, how long did it take you? Oh, I can only imagine ...

Ah, you're so sweet! This could turn into a cycle of gratitude that we'll never find our way out of! LOL!
How long this drawing took me? That's actually a really difficult question. If one considered the moment of attempting to get a drawing out of DK that I was happy with, and the moment it was completed and done, then it took me months, sort of.
But the actual drawing phase only took a couple of hours. Once I sit down, start, and find my groove, I work pretty quickly. I could never take six hours on a drawing. I'm just not that knid of artist. I like 'em quick and dirty! *laugh*
I'm considering drawing Rob, I just need to find a good picture. :)

Yeah, you're right. If I continue praising you I might never stop and vise-versa. (laughing) I knew that picture would take you a while to make, for goodness sakes you had more than one stage of development! I have never seen anyone ever draw David so realistic before. I can't believe you did that! Are you sure you just didn't put your name on it and someone else drew it?! ... There I go again. Keep up the good work Napalmnacey. Take care. I better stop talking now! (laughing)

It only took more than one attempt because I needed to get to know DK's features. It took a bit of getting used to cause I'm used to drawing Daniel Radcliffe!
Yes, I really drew that! I have art at my deviant account that shows that this kind of drawing isn't a one off for me! :)

Hey there Christine!
I used pencil. Just your run of the mill graphite pencil. Different softnesses of pencil though. They range from 6H to 6B (6H, 5H, 4H, 3H, 2H, H, HB, B, 2B, 3B, 4B, 5B, 6B). I used from HB to 4B. I drew on a standard cartridge. It took me about an hour to do.
And briana - just start drawing! After you get some practice you'll be as good as ever! :)

Just out of curiousity Nap. You said you took art lessons right? Well, I've been meaning to take some too and be able to learn what you have drawn. But, when I looked into it, there were a whole list of art classes and courses to take. Do, you remember what the name or the technique and style of drawing it was you took? I'd really appreciate it. And if you don't remember, don't worry about it.

I did two years of a four year diploma. They didn't teach us any style or technique as such. They taught us how to draw what we saw and not what we knew. I don't know how you could learn what I did in that picture since it's just my natural style!
I can point you to books I learnt things from, and artists I studied. Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain is a really good book that taught me heaps, as well as The Natural Way to Draw.
I also studied Degas quite heavily, so you might want to look into his work.
Good luck!
