W is for When to Leave-

“Stop right there! Stop now!” Agent Don Eppes screamed. His semi-automatic in front of him, he targeted three accounted criminals he and his team have been waiting for. “All three of you on your knees, now!” He demanded. The three stopped running from Don.

Don hit the button under his left wrist to notify other agents to get down to his location; the warehouse. While doing so, gun shots went off, striking Don several times through the Kevlar. Don fell backwards, his semi-automatic dropping beside him as he screamed hitting the ground himself. The three men took off running as several more gun shots went off, hitting at Don. He saw stairs and quickly rolled underneath them.

Laying flat on his stomach, he felt sharp pain where the bullets had hit him several times at his Kevlar. He turned on his right side breathing hard and saw the holes where the bullets had entered. Don pressed down the button on his left wrist, underneath his dress shirt.

“Requesting for an ambulance.” Don said through pain, “Agent down...” he trailed off; Everything went black.

“Don!” Agents David Sinclair and Colby Granger screamed running over to him with other back up agents. Colby dropped next to Don, pushed him on his back and started undoing his Kevlar while David ordered the other agents to start searching for the suspects.

“Don.” Colby said pushing the Kevlar off of him and saw blood soaking up his blue dress shirt, “Damn, they got him good.”

“Out of surprise too.” David said looking down at Don. Colby undid Don's dress shirt next, hearing him groan, “Hang in there, Don an ambulance is on its way.”

“Don buddy.” Colby said hitting Don's cheek gently, “Hey man, stay with us.”

Don fluttered his eyes open, regaining consciousness then went in pain.

“You've been shot bad, did you see who did it?” David asked.

“I didn't.” Don answered in pain. Don dropped his head back to the concrete, coughing while Colby placed his jacket over him. Next, David slipped his own jacket under Don's head for support.

“Try and keep your eyes open Don.” Colby instructed, watching Don's eyes close, “Don.”

Don didn't respond.

“Don!” Colby yelled once more, “Don't die on me, man!”

-----

After the scene, Agent Colby Granger entered the meeting room with pure anger. After seeing his Agent in Charge, nearly dead, pushed Colby's nerves. Agent David Sinclair followed quickly behind. When the two entered, to their surprise, they found former agent, Megan Reeves off to the side with Agent Liz Warner.

“Did Don get the guys?” Liz asked, confused on where Don was.

“He almost had them.” David answered before Colby, who had walked off to the side of the meeting room, his head down and hands on his waist, thinking, “Megan, what are you doing here?”

“Decided to stop by and visit, I'm in town.” Megan explained, walking over to David, giving him a nice hug and pulled back looking to Colby, concerned, “Colby.”

“What happened to Don?” Liz asked looking to David as Megan walked over to Colby, putting her hand on his back.

David stayed quiet, staring into Liz's eyes.

“I'm going to find out one way or another. Obviously something happened to him.” Liz explained.

“We didn't get the suspects because when Don was trying to seize them gun shots went off and hit him multiple times.” David explained, “He had been rushed to the hospital and when we were with him he became non-responsive.”

“Colby.” Megan whispered his name gently. Colby turned around, looking to Megan and then to Liz who looked like in shock from the news she had learned from David.

“I swear to god if he dies, I'm going to bring hell.” Colby explained, clenching his teeth he hit the side of the wall with his left fist, stormed out and he was gone.

-----

Gaining consciousness, Don could hear birds chirping and wind blowing. He felt confused. He slowly opened his eyes, and found himself lying on a bed in the middle of the wilderness.

'What the hell...' his thoughts drifted off surprised when he sat up. He quickly looked down to his chest, he was dressed in a white t-shirt, but no blood showed. He removed the shirt off and saw no wounds accounted for, at all.

Don got out of the bed slowly, hearing the breeze brush through the trees as he slipped his t-shirt on, letting it fall neatly over his white pants.

Don wondered if he should stay where he was, or wander. Don looked around the bed for any of his things, nothing was there. He looked ahead of him, finding a path and started to follow it. A few minutes later, curving through the trees, he came down to a beach of an ocean.

Don stepped down into the white sand, expecting it to be incredibly hot like most beaches, because of the sun, but he felt no touch of the sand or heat to his bare feet at all. The new area that surrounded Don had started to scare him.

"Donny." He heard a female voice say his name, sounding concerned.

Alarmed, Don whipped around, wishing he had his gun, but when he saw who the woman was, he felt like he was going to fall down from shock.

-----

The agents, family and friends, were gathered around Don who lay on his gurney bed, motionless. The cover was pulled up to his bare chest, half way and cords were connected to him here and there, including the oxygen mask, to help him breath.

His body is stabilized, but he is very weak, and the doctors feared that he could slip any day in the next few days.

Robin Brooks softly rubbed his forehead, while she rested her right hand on his hands that were rested on his stomach. The team all knew she had been crying earlier, even if she was trying to show no emotion, they all knew how much she cared for him.

"I can't believe this happened." Robin spoke up, breaking the silence in the room, biting her lip.

The others all looked over to her, in silence.

"All we need to do now is wait." Megan said to her, "I know it’s going to be hard...."

"You don't even know how I'm feeling Megan." Robin snapped, interrupting her. Colby looked over to David, alarmed that there was going to be a cat-fight.

"Robin, why don't you go get some fresh air." David spoke up.

"No she can stay, I'll leave." Megan said, "After all, she is his girlfriend." And Megan left the room in anger.

------

"Mom..." Don trailed off, putting his hands on the back of his head, looking around and looked back into her eyes, "Is it...is it really you?"

She stood there, her right hand over her left wrist, gently pressing against her body, staring back to her son’s eyes with a smirk.

"Of course it's me silly, who else would I be?" Margaret asked.

He pursed his lips, not knowing what to say.

"I've been so worried for you lately, with all the dangerous work you've been doing." She explained, "I was afraid something like this was going to happen."

"Afraid what was going to happen?" Don asked.

"You don't remember what happened at the warehouse?"

Don stayed quiet; his eyes fixed a bit, trying to think back on what had happened. Then heard popping sounds of a gun, watched himself fall back. Don blinked and looked over to his mom once again.

"I'm not...dead...am I?" Don slowly asked, remembering.

"You're not dead. But you're close." She explained, caressing his left cheek, "Its your decision to come with me or stay."

Don closed his eyes putting his left hand over his mother’s hand.

"I miss you." Don whispered.

"I know you miss me honey, you'll be with me someday." She said.

Don opened his eyes up and looked into her eyes.

"I want to be with you mom." Don said, grabbing both her hands, "I miss you a lot."

"Baby, you've become a handsome, strong man, and you've got a whole life ahead of you to still live through." She explained.

"I want to stay with you..."

"You're not going to stay with me. I told you, we'll be together someday just not today." She interrupted him, "Robin needs you, the team, oh what a wonderful team you have, are depending on you and they are all in pain right now, seeing you laying there helplessly." She explained to him, "Its time for you to go back."

"But mom..." Don trailed off, going in pain. He looked to his shirt, seeing it soaked from blood where he had been shot. Don dropped to his knees, feeling the hot sand through his pants, and looked up to her as she cupped his chin, "Mom."

"I love you so much, you're a wonderful man and I'm very proud of you." She said.

"I can't...I don't want to leave...” He trailed off, lying on his back in the sand, as a white light blinded him now.

---------

Don fluttered his eyes open, seeing his surroundings of the hospital room. He was no longer in the wonderful area he had met his mother in. A nurse had been watering a flower off by the window when she turned around, startled to see him awake and breathing on his own.

"Oh my, Agent Eppes." She gasped with excitement in her eyes and rushed out of his room, "Doctor!"

-------

Robin couldn't believe the news she had heard about Don. She was in so much shock hearing that he had woken up. After she had hung up her phone call with David Sinclair, she was quickly out on the road a few seconds later and now she had finally arrived at the hospital. She rushed through the double doors, went marching through the hall way as quick as she could, opened the door to his room and found him sitting up against the pillows, drinking his water and nodding while the team and others had been talking with him just shortly before she had arrived.

Don turned his head, seeing Robin standing there, breathing hard and almost in tears.

"Hey sweetheart." Don smiled as her hand fell from the door handle, standing there. She can't believe he was sitting there, talking. She for sure thought he wasn't going to make it; he was in such rough shape.

"Robin." David said, confused. Don looked over to Alan and Charlie, then back to Robin seeing her just standing there, seeing her wobbling a bit.

"Robin." Don said, putting his hand out for her, "Come here."

She blinked, seeing his hand out for hers and slipped her hand into his. He gripped her hand, pulling her towards him, to be closer to her and he kissed her knuckles of her left hand, looking up into her eyes.

"I can't believe this." She whispered, wanting to cry from joy.

He smiled taking her other hand, "You think I'd leave you?"

She smiled, tears forming in her eyes and he pulled her into him. Her face dropped down into his neck, wrapping her arms around his bare shoulders as his arms came around her small waist, pulling her onto his bed and the two hugged, knowing that he was okay now.

End.

Getting better...I enjoyed this one.

Poor Don gets shot...sees his mom and doesn't want to leave and she says ...not your time.

Liked that Robin had mixed emotions. You go through lots of emotions when someone you care about gets hurt and some of them aren't rational.

It's a good thing you brought Don back to us, or I'd have to hurt you. :p
